A story of how one teacher turned tormentor used a golf club to deliver a savage lesson in discipline to a 14-year old student in a Kodaikanal school in Tamil Nadu.

The merciless thrashing has ruined the life of the aspiring athlete as the doctor’s say he may never be able to walk again. It is been two months but the scars still remain for this boy. The certificates of excellence didn’t make a difference for 14 year old Ayyanan when teacher decided to trash him with a golf club at Zion School, Kodaikanal, on October, leaving the promising hockey player with a fractured knee, over ten stitches but no hope that this talented boy will ever be able to play the sport again.

Devakumar, the teacher accused of the brutality was upset at Ayyanan’s chatting in class. Now the teacher has been charged and a case registered against the school administrator. “I woke up in my hostel room and I later went to Madurai Hospital. I got an x-ray done. There were three needles and two have been removed, one still there. I will never be able to play again,” said Ayyanan. But the police surprisingly have not been able to track down the tormentor.

Says J James Jairam, Inspector, Kodaikanal, “Ayyanan studying in Class 9th in Zion School was allegedly beaten up by his teacher. His father has lodged a complaint against the Deva Kumar. The investigation is on, but we are not able to question the teachers and students as the vacations are on.” But this is not the first time such an incident has shocked the nation. For Ayyanan however these scars will remain with him for life.
